Taylor Janell Field

Taylor Janell Field is an artist, psychotherapist, and Co-Director of Taos Art Institute, a non-profit fostering accessible, inclusive arts education and creative expression through classes, exhibition and studio space, and a community darkroom. Taylor is deeply passionate about community mental health, arts education, and sharing public programs. She is currently studying concepts of“re-monstering” with Berlin Art Institute and Jasmine Reimer. Taylor’s work for the past decade has meandered through processes of experimentation, and oscillation between freedom and constraint. In 2016 she explored grief through environmental tragedy with sumi ink paintings inspired by Japan’s 2011 Tsunami and Gretel Ehrlich’s book, “Facing the Wave.” Taylor has woven in and out of functional and sculptural ceramic practices, especially enamored with the etoilation of porcelain and seeing the hand in forms, and in both practices relying on experimentation in process and “Reality” as the “Unknown Collaborator.” Sound pieces inspired by landscape and weather systems echoed from Oakland and Taos studios. Listen to her sound piece for Taos Abstract Artist Collective’s Abstract Minimalism show here.
